15th edition of Indo-Nepal joint military exercise is going to begin today. This 14-day exercise is named as SURYA-KIRAN 15 and will be held in the frontier district of Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand. This exercise will begin with a gathering of around 650 soldiers from both countries at the Friendship Ground of army in Pithoragarh. A battalion of Garhwal Regiment from India and a battalion of Nepal army will be participating in this exercise.
“The exercise will include a special 48 hours of gruelling exercise to validate counter insurgency operations in mountainous terrains,” said the Army officer.
The exercise will improve bilateral relationship between the two armies and will be a major step to strengthen friendly relations between countries, he said.
The main objective of this exercise is to establish military relations between both countries in unreachable mountain areas by sharing their experiences. Apart from this, this exercise also aims to provide relief to humans under disaster management. For this Soldiers will also take training in anti-terrorist operations.
The last edition of this exercise was held in Nepal in 2019.
