Ranchi, Sept 23: The Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society and NGO Vasan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to bring the families of Jharkhand’s Primitive Vulnerable Tribal Groups into the mainstream of development. This will be done by connecting them to a strong livelihood through the Jharkhand Millet Mission. The MoU was signed at the State Office of JSLPS in Hehal by the Chief Executive Officer Nancy Sahay and the Director of Vasan, Dr. Sabyasachi Das.
Vasan will work within the scope of JSLPS’s UDAN initiative to improve the life of PVTGs under this non-financial agreement. Work will be done to raise the income of tribal communities by connecting them with improved honey farming in order to revitalise honey agriculture. Following the signing of the MoU, Sahay stated that the Jharkhand Millet Mission would be established, with the goal of eliminating malnutrition in the state while simultaneously providing a source of income for tribal people.
Vasan will help with everything from millet cultivation to processing and marketing. This effort will assist the PVTG families of the state in becoming prosperous by connecting them to sources of long-term income. Vasan’s Director, Sabyasachi Das, stated that Vasan will assist JSLPS in implementing the Millet Mission in the State, as well as providing honey marketing and processing facilities. The tribal groups of Birhor, Asur, Sabar, Pahariya, Korba, Birjia, and Parhiya would gain directly from this project.
PVTG families’ income will be increased with this initiative, which will build a model of entrepreneurship through backyard poultry in 20 blocks across the state.
Training and production will be pushed to help tribal families in the Udaan project region to enhance their millet and madua agriculture. Given the enormous potential for development that millet cultivation offers, efforts will be made to connect PVTG households in the state with millet farming in order to boost their income. Training and capacity building of project workers will be ensured through habitation for the development of PVTG families in the project area. VASAN will assist JSLPS in developing a long-term strategy for PVTG family development. This Memorandum of Understanding is entirely non-financial. PVTG will be linked to honey production in the state in order to provide families with a stable source of income. The UDAN project will handle Madua’s production, marketing, and distribution. Madua and Bazar would be linked to the livelihood of PVTG families in the state under the value chain concept.
Around 15,000 PVTG families in the state would be connected to the backyard poultry and madua-based value chain as part of the UDAN programme. By initiating the Jharkhand Millet Mission in the JSLPS state, around 15,000 tribal (PVTG) families will be connected with millet production and processing. Vasan will also give technical assistance for the community’s capacity building, marketing, and market system, including agriculture and production. PVTG households would encourage organic madua farming so that they can earn good prices for their products.
