Leh(Ladakh), Oct 2: The Indian Army has deployed K-9 Vajra howitzers in Ladakh along the Line of Actual Control with China. The Indian Army has successfully tested the made-in India K-9 Vajira howitzers in high altitude locations in Eastern Ladakh and inducted a regiment of these guns in the sector, said Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane on Saturday.
He said that we have intensified infrastructure and development on the border areas adjoining Ladakh to deal with China. In view of the potential threat on the border with China, India has increased the deployment of troops.
Recently China has increased the deployment of troops in the areas adjacent to the border. Apart from Eastern Ladakh and Northern Command, China has also deployed a large number of troops on the Eastern Command. The 13th round of military-level talks between India and China can be held in the second week of October. Hopefully, we will resolve the disputes through dialogue, added the Army Chief.
Notably, this K-9 gun was the first major Make in India project of the Narendra Modi government and 100 of these guns have been inducted into the force and plans are afoot to buy more of them. Interestingly, the self-propelled guns have a range of 38 kilometers but they have been successfully hitting targets of 50 kilometers in the mountains up to 16,000 feet altitude in Eastern Ladakh.
With the induction of the K-9 Vajras, the Indian Army will obtain new inductions in its inventory.
