Ranchi, Oct.2: The JMM today urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to improve the quality of the service being provided under the schemes named after ‘Pradhan Mantri’.

Party general secretary and spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya made the request while taking a dig at the change of name of ‘Mid Day Meal Scheme’ as ‘ Pradhan Mantri Poshan Yojana.

After the change of name of the scheme, the hunger index dipped to 27.2 in 2020 from 31.2  in 2014, Bhattacharya said, adding that ‘India stands 94th among 107 countries. Among those above India are Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh’.

He termed ‘PM Poshan Yojana” as ‘PM Soshan Yoiana or PM Kuposhan Yojana’ adding that “the scheme which gives 5kg food grains to over 80 crore people from the bag carrying pictures of the prime minister can only be ‘shoshan yojana’.”

JMM spokesperson Bhattacharya said in case the government takes a call from the data of the global hunger index only god can imagine the situation. He earlier mentioned the famine of Bengal and said that the country is heading towards that.

The JMM spokesperson on the occasion also suggested PM Modi to take initiative to increase the wage under MNREGA scheme to Rs 350 per day and increase job days of job guarantee from 100 to 200 to address malnutrition in the country where 88 lakh undernourished babies take birth every year.

He praised CM Hemant Soren for giving an additional budget from the state fund to provide eggs six days in a week to fight malnutrition.
