Dhanbad, Oct 4: Sushil Dwivedi (35) posted at Bokaro Sector 12 police station was killed in an accidental firing from his own service INSAS rifle at the police barrack on Sunday night.

Chandan Kumar Jha, Bokaro Superintendent of Police (SP) who reached the spot immediately after the incident, said that he has set up a committee to investigate how the bullet fired automatically from the gun. Deputy Superintendent of Police, (DSP) Headquarters, Mukesh Kumar, City DSP Kuldeep Kumar and officer-in-charge of Sector 12 police station Jai Govind Prasad Gupta also reached the spot.

Police officials of the barrack told the media that the incident occurred around 10 pm.  Police personnel of the barrack were having dinner when they heard the firing. They rushed to the spot and found Sushil lying on the ground under a pool of blood. He died on the spot.

An eye witness said that Sushil had returned after completing his duty at Sector 12 police station in the evening. At around 9.30 PM while others were having dinner, Sushil went out with his INSAS rifle and then his body was found in the nearby ground. The bullet had hit his chest and went out from the back.

“After returning from his duty, Sushil looked calm and composed. There was no sign of tension or anxiety on his face which could have driven him to take such a step,” said a constable of the barrack.

Family members of Sushil, who live in Binod Nagar in Dhanbad city, also denied any tension in the family. They reached Bokaro late at night after the authorities informed them about the incident.

Sushil was a 2011 batch constable. He was deployed in Jharkhand Jaguar police and transferred to Bokaro last year. He was paid homage by the senior officials today morning.
