Ranchi, Oct.16: Amid vigilance by the NDRF team, idols of deities were immersed in water bodies across the Jharkhand capital after Durga Puja celebration in strict adherence to corona pandemic guidelines. The immersion started on Friday and concluded today.

Sub-divisional magistrate Deepak Kumar Mishra supported the observation saying magistrates were deputed at all the 10 water bodies demarcated for immersion and there is no report of any untoward incident including drowning or any other law and order problem.

“All remained peaceful,” SDM Mishra said.

There were 10 water bodies, including Ranchi Lake, Line Tank, Button Pond, Machli Pond, Hatania Pond, Jagannathpur Pond, Kanke Dam, Dhurwa Dam, Jail Pond and Karamtoli Pond, which were demarcated for immersion.

Apart from deputation of the police force and NDRF teams, cleanliness workers were also deputed to take care of cleanliness work of ponds and water bodies anticipating pollution threat.  However, cleanliness work did not remain a problem this time.

Deputy Mayor of Ranchi Municipal Corporation Sanjeev Vijayavargiya, supported the observation.

“As the height of idols was limited to five feet, cleanliness of water bodies was easier this year. At every water body demarcated for immersion, one supervisor with 8 to 10 workers were deputed for cleaning and the cleanliness works remained smooth. At Ranchi Lake we have also deputed an earthmover for the purpose,” deputy mayor Vijayavargiya said.

People across the city also appeared more alert, taking pandemic guidelines. Though there was a section taking the corona pandemic guideline for granted the major section was serious about this.
