Dhanbad, Oct 19: FIDE arbiter Vishal Kumar Minz (25) of Jamshedpur has been selected to officiate in the Asian Youth Online Chess Championship which is scheduled to start on October 22.

General Secretary of Jharkhand State Chess Association (JSCA)  Neeraj Kumar Mishra on Monday gave this information that All India Chess Federation has informed the state body regarding the selection of Vishal Kumar Minz as Zoom arbiter for the Asian Youth Chess Championship 2021.

As per the championship schedules, the girls’ main event would be played from October 22 to October 24 while the open main event would be organized from October 29 to October 31, 2021.

Vishal is the first chess arbiter of Jharkhand to officiate in any official event of International stature.

“He has been selected on the basis of his performance (as arbiter) in conducting the National Online Chess Championship held last year. It is a great achievement for  Jharkhand that its arbiter is going to officiate an international event,” said Neeraj Mishra.

Veteran chess arbiter of Jharkhand Jayant Bhuiyan has highly appreciated the selection of Vishal and said it is a proud moment for Jharkhand chess.

Jayant Bhuiyan, who has officiated several FIDE tournaments including the World Team Championship in 1993 (Calicut) and CommonWealth Championship 2008 ( Nagpur) said that the task of officiating online chess tournaments is a tough challenge.

“Vishal has a bright scope to move ahead by keeping himself updated with the game,” he said.

Vishal Kumar Minz, who became active in the arbiter field hardly two years ago,  came into limelight through his performance in the national championship recently.

Chairman of Arbiter’s Commission of All India Chess Federation (ACAICF), Dharmendra Kumar, said that Vishal Minz was a very sincere, dutiful and punctual arbiter during the national championship.

“We see him as a quality arbiter of the future. My best wishes to him,” he added.
