New Delhi, Oct.22: On Friday, October 22, fuel prices rose for the third day in a row, reaching new all-time highs. For the first time in the country, petrol has reached Rs.120 and diesel is close to Rs.110. Petrol in Rajasthan’s Sriganganagar has reached Rs 119.05 and diesel Rs 109.88 per liter.

According to Indian Oil Corporation, petrol and diesel prices in the national capital have risen 35 paise to Rs.106.89 and Rs.95.62 per litre, respectively, following the latest hike.

Petrol is currently 35.3 percent more expensive than the price at which aircraft may buy aviation turbine fuel (ATF or jet fuel). ATF costs Rs.79,020.16 per kilolitre in Delhi, or about Rs.79 per litre.

A litre of petrol costs Rs.112.78, and a litre of diesel costs Rs.103.63 in Mumbai. The price of petrol in Chennai has risen to Rs.103.92 per litre, while diesel prices have remained unchanged at Rs.99.92 per litre. According to the state-run oil refiner, Mumbai has the highest fuel prices of the four metro cities. Because of the value-added tax, or VAT, fuel prices vary by state.

Oil prices have resumed their upward trend due to persistent supply constraints in the United States. WTI crude futures in the United States climbed 20 cents, or 0.2 percent, to $82.70 a barrel. Brent crude futures rose 24 cents, or 0.3%, to $84.85 a barrel.
