Lucknow, Oct.23: Three more persons were arrested on Saturday, in connection with the Tikonia violence, which left eight people dead, including four farmers, during a farmer protest on October 3, according to officials.

This brings the total number of arrests in connection with the incident to 13, including Union minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish.

Mohit Trivedi of Singahi town, Ranku Rana of Barsola Kalan, and Dharmendra of Chimma Tanda, all within Tikonia kotwali limits, were arrested on Saturday, according to a senior police officer.

According to the officer, the arrests were made when their identities surfaced during the interrogation of other suspects in police custody.

Later in the day, the three suspects would appear in court, and the authorities would ask for a 14-day police remand for further questioning, he said.

Ashish was apprehended on October 9 and is still being held by authorities.

Sumit Jaiswal, a BJP ward member, Ankit Das, Latif alias Kale, Shekhar Bharti, Shishu Pal, Satya Prakash Tripathi alias Satyam, Nandan Singh Bisht, Ashish Pandey, and Lavkush Rana are among the nine others arrested.

Except for Ashish Pandey and Lavkush Rana, the other seven are being held in police custody for questioning.

On October 3, a police report was filed at the Tikonia police station. A counter-FIR was filed the next day at the same police station, based on a complaint by Sumit Jaiswal, who has since been arrested. The case is being investigated by a SIT formed by the state police.
