Ramgarh, Oct.26: A herd of nine elephants was spotted on the ‘Maa Chhinnamastika’ temple road in the Rajrappa area on Tuesday morning. Another herd had been spotted on the Rajrappa Temple route about 15 days ago. Devotees coming to Rajrappa for ‘darshan’ of Maa Chhinnamastika as well as the local residents are terrified due to this.
The herd was seen standing in the middle of the main road leading to the temple early in the morning. They have been reported roaming on the way from Chitarpur to Rajrappa road in the valley. After spotting the herd, the movement of people on the main road stopped for some time.
Devotees going to the Rajrappa temple were diverted from the usual route. Priests and shopkeepers of the Rajrappa temple said that encounters of these animals with the public can be dangerous as many devotees have come to worship today. So, the forest department has been informed for the safety of the public.
Ranger Jiteshwar Singh on this occurrence said, “We have information about the roaming herd of 9 elephants in Rajrappa Temple road area. Presently, 7 elephants have crossed the Bheda river. We have no information about the other two elephants. Efforts are being made to locate them.”
