Ranchi, Oct.30: With a view to create awareness about the legislative process among youth and give them a first-hand experience of Parliament, 2-day Chhatra Sansad (students’ parliament) started at Jharkhand Assembly today.
The special session is being organized for the first time in association with PRS Legislative Research, a non-profit organisation based in Delhi.
On the first day 24 student ‘parliamentarians’, selected from different colleges and universities by a selection process were today introduced to the idea behind the session and made aware of different businesses of parliament. Tomorrow the ‘parliamentarians’ will give a live demonstration of what they learnt today.
During the session, they select their speaker, take the oath, run question hour, table a bill, bring amendment proposals and participate in the debate.
Parliamentary affairs minister Alamgir Alam expressed his pleasure over the session saying it will help grow leaders for the future. Chief Minister Hemant Soren was also present during the inauguration of the special session. He also addressed the ‘parliamentarians’. He said a strong state or nation can only be imagined in case political and educational sense prevails there.
