Ranchi, Nov 3: The Ranchi administration launched a campaign on Wednesday to stop the sale of adulterated sweets on Diwali and issued notice to almost all the shops for violation of cleanliness and quality as per standards.

The team of FSSAI and SDM Deepak Kumar Dubey raided several restaurants, hotels and confectionery stores from Kanke to Bariatu.

The shopkeepers have been given a week’s time to submit the fine along with the answer for adulteration in the SDM office.

The SDM said during the checking that there is an improvement in the quality of sweets in shops and establishments after conducting raids in the past.

“The sale of adulterated and spoiled ingredients has already been reduced but the shortcomings are being found regarding cleanliness and display of ‘best before date’ tag,” the SDM said.

The Mansoon Restaurant and Caterer, Bariatu was fined Rs 40,000 for several violations. During the investigation, the team found that the shop was being run without a food license. Along with this, notices were issued for not having the best before date on sweets, lack of cleanliness in the kitchen, use of bad paneer and not using glove-caps.

There was a lot of filth in the kitchen at Saraswati Misthan Bhandar on Kanke Road with no best before tags on the sweets. After which the administration issued a notice and issued a challan of Rs 15000.

In Rajasthan Confectioners located on Kanke Road, the SDM expressed displeasure over not putting the best before date on sweets. After the samples of sweets were found correct, he instructed to put the best before date properly. Along with this, a challan of Rs 5000 was deducted while issuing a notice of the violation.

The administration issued a challan of Rs 25000 on Savitri Sweets Bhandar on Kanke Road. During checking, the team found that the wrong colour was being used in the sweets and starch was found in the Milk Cake. Adulteration was also found in samosa, laddu and bundiya. There was no best before date on sweets as well as cleanliness of the kitchen was also not there.
