PM Modi meets US Congress delegation, discuss over enhancing bilateral ties

New Delhi, Nov.13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with a congressional delegation from the United States on Saturday and had a “frank” conversation about regional problems of common concern, especially those relating to South Asia and the Indo-Pacific area.

He met with the delegation led by Senator John Cornyn, which included Senator Michael Crapo, Senator Thomas Tuberville, Senator Michael Lee, Congressman Tony Gonzales, and Congressman John Kevin Elizey Sr., according to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

Senator John Cornyn is the co-founder and co-chair of Senate Caucus on India and Indian Americans.

“The Congressional delegation noted the excellent management of COVID-19 situation in India in-spite of the challenges of large and diverse population. Prime Minister noted that people’s participation based on democratic ethos of the country played a key role in managing the worst pandemic of the last one century,” read the statement.

PM Modi welcomed the US Congress’s continued support and constructive role in expanding the India-US comprehensive global strategic partnership, which is based on shared democratic values, according to the statement.

According to the statement, “there was a warm and honest debate on regional problems of common concern, especially those relating to South Asia and the Indo-Pacific area.”

PM Modi and the visiting team acknowledged the growing convergence of strategic interests between the two key partners and expressed a willingness to further cooperation in order to promote global peace and stability, according to the statement.

PM Modi also discussed ways to improve the bilateral relationship and deepen cooperation on current global concerns like terrorism, climate change, and dependable supply chains for essential technology, according to the statement.
