Ranchi, Nov.13: Ranchi police have arrested five drug peddlers and recovered brown sugar from their possession. The breakthrough came after a team from Lower Bazar police station swung into action on the direction of senior superintendent of police S.K.Jha, who got a tip-off regarding supply of drugs in big quantities in the Jharkhand capital.

All those arrested have been kept at Lower Bazar police station for interrogation.

Officer-in-charge of Lower Bazar police station could not be contacted for his comments. Deputy Superintendent of police (city) Deepak Kumar confirmed the arrest and further action.

This is not the first time a drug peddler has been arrested from the Lower Bazar police station area. Earlier on October 18, police arrested a drug peddler, Mohammed Javed Qureshi, from near a mosque on K.M.Road under the police station area.

Javed, who was carrying 8.20gram of drugs at the time of arrest, shared vital information regarding the business of drugs in Ranchi before he was produced before the court.

Prior to this, several arrests have been made from this police station in the area. A locality resident said drug peddling is very common in the area and police action is negligible in comparison to the problem.

Another police official said that the morale of drug peddlers is so high that they do not hesitate to supply it even in well-fortified areas.

“Recently, we have arrested two people attempting to supply drugs at an observation home in Dumardaga, where children in conflict with law are kept,” a police official at Sadar police station said.
