Jamshedpur, Nov. 15: City-born Saroni Roy’s journey from Sacred Heart Convent School to the acting world of Australia, is a tale of grit and determination. Along with making waves in the acting world, Saroni was named Ms India Australia Goodwill Ambassador in 2018 at the Miss/Mrs/Mr India Australia beauty pageant organised by Miss India Australia Corporation, for her contribution towards social causes. She has brought laurels to her hometown by achieving several rare feats.
Speaking from Sydney over the phone, she said: “Yes it was a big shock, a jolt, a pause, but also the biggest turning point in my life. I was spending a lot of time at home as I had to take a break from work, I was a PR professional at that time. For almost 3-4 years the transition phase from India to Australia I almost disappeared from social life. But I didn’t put my life on hold. I chose to spend that time focusing on what my heart, body and mind needed to heal. I wanted to bring a radical change in my life and in the world. Discover and build the new me,”. She fought hard to get cured of Cancer.
Roy recently joined the AFTERPAY Australian Fashion Week 2021 (AAFW 2021) Resort 22 Collections held at Carriageworks, Sydney, promoting South Asian presence at the Australian fashion industry’s biggest event.
As Ms India Australia Goodwill Ambassador and a body-positive advocate, Saroni is the first Indian-origin brand ambassador for world’s leading body-confidence brand for women, Nancy Ganz and has been redefining the narrow ideals of beauty in the Fashion and Entertainment industry with her Diversity & Inclusion campaigns.
Roy showcased what the next generation of fashion looks like, swaying in animal print to understated black pencil dresses, and was adorned by AAFW 2021 DIGI COUTURE’s Toni Maticevski and The Fabricant’s Animator Overcoat.
“Though I was happy to see the diversity and inclusion in this year’s AAFW, it was disappointing to see the lack of South Asian representation and body diversity. That would be my plea and hope for the future of the Australian fashion industry,” said Saroni.
The 2021 AAFW presented a dynamic and engaging program of physical and digital offerings for the fashion industry and for fashion-loving consumers. From runway shows to panel discussions to the live Lady-Brains podcast, the Indigenous Fashion Projects runway show, and Afterpay’s Future of Fashion Runway.
Saroni is today an actress, known for Risen, Greed (2020) and A Troubled Town (2019). She is based in Sydney, known for her television and film roles. The talented actress and model has worked in several American, Australian and European projects.
Daughter of former Tata Steel official Saroni was also awarded the Peace Ambassador title in 2019 for her incessant contribution towards World Peace by the International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG).
