New Delhi, Nov.20: The newly inducted scorpene-class submarine INS Vela and destroyer ship INS Vishakhapatnam will be commissioned soon, giving the Indian Navy a significant increase in firepower.
The first stealth guided-missile destroyer ship, the INS Vishakhapatnam, will be commissioned in Mumbai on Sunday (November 21) in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, according to Navy Vice Chief Vice Admiral Satish N Ghormade.
“We are ready for INS Visakhapatnam’s commissioning on November 21; our indigenous content is the highest today. After commissioning, we will continue with a few more trials and will be one with the fleet,” Capt Birendra Singh Bains, Commanding Officer (designate) of INS Visakhapatnam said on Saturday.
“We have improved our onboard machinery, various auxiliaries, weapon systems, & sensors; our guns & torpedoes are fired,” he added.
The fourth Project-75 Vela submarine would be commissioned four days later, on November 25, by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Karambir Singh, according to the Navy Vice Chief.
Following the commissioning of these warships, the first ship of the Survey Vessel Large project, Sandhayak, was launched in early December.
