Ranchi, Nov 25: BJP has attempted to corner the JMM government in the state over high prices of petrol and diesel. This is a tit for tat move by the state’s main opposition party, since JMM and its allies used to corner the BJP and its central government on the same issue till the Union Cabinet reduced excise duty by Rs. 10 on diesel and Rs. 5 on petrol on November 3.
The signature campaign of the BJP gained huge support from the public on every oil pump of Ranchi. People arriving at the petrol pumps signed and extended their support in making the campaign successful.
Kanke MLA Sammari Lal said that the central government has reduced the prices but it is quite unfortunate that the state government of the state, which raised the voice for the reduction of petrol and diesel prices, is still silent.
“We will compel the state government to reduce the VAT to provide relief to the people of the state which are suffering due to increased prices of petrol and diesel,” Lal said.
BJP SC front President Ram Lagan Ram said that the state government will have to reduce the prices or else a bigger campaign will be organised.
“With the reduction in the prices of petrol and diesel, the public will be benefitted as the inflation in other items will also be controlled,” Ram said.
People at different locations said that the state government should immediately reduce the VAT to give some relief from the ever-increasing oil prices.
“JMM and allied parties were blaming the centre for the increase in the prices of oil, now when the centre has reduced the prices the current government is silent and had been fooling the people of the state,” a person said.
The opposition party, BJP, has announced to hold signature campaigns across all petrol pumps in the state on Nov. 24 to protest against the Hemant government’s refusal to reduce VAT on fuel prices. They have also announced to begin another phase of agitation from November 27 against the delay in holding panchayat polls, which are pending for almost a year.
