New Delhi, Dec. 2: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that a low-pressure region in the south Andaman Sea will be built into a depression on December 4 and advance towards the coast as a cyclonic storm. This has prompted the Coast Guard to take substantial pre-emptive measures along the eastern coast.

Odisha government on Wednesday asked collectors in 13 districts to prepare for people to be evacuated and devised a disaster management strategy that included requisitioning NDRF, ODRAF, and fire department personnel for rescue and relief operations.

By the morning of December 4, the cyclonic storm is forecast to cross the shores of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, with wind gusts ranging from 90 to 100 kmph, torrential rains, and tidal waves.

It is expected to hit Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, and Vizianagaram, as well as Odisha’s coastal regions.

The cyclone is also expected to bring heavy to extremely heavy rainfall to West Bengal’s coastal portions and Gangetic regions.
