Mortal remains of CDS Rawat, others reach Delhi

President Kovind, PM Modi will pay tributes to the deceased.

New Delhi, Dec.9: The Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft from Sulur carrying mortal remains of CDS General Bipin Rawat, wife and 11 other defence personnel, has arrived at Palam airbase in Delhi. President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, other dignitaries will pay their tributes to late CDS General Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 other army personnels who lost their lives in the M-17 helicopter crash on Wednesday, Dec 8.

 

 

 

The last rites of the crash victims is scheduled for tomorrow. Defence Mnister Rajnath Singh had earlier announced in the Parliament that they will be cremated with full military honors.

President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be to the Palam Air Force Base, where the C130-J Super Hercules transport plane carrying the bodies landed. At 8.30 p.m., the Defence Secretary will lay a wreath, followed by the Air Force, Navy, and Army Chiefs of Staff, as well as the junior Defence Minister. Before the President pays his tributes, Mr. Doval, Rajnath Singh, and the Prime Minister will arrive.

Gen Rawat and his wife, Madhulika Rawat, and Brigadier LS Lidder are the only three bodies that have been recognised thus far. Their bodies will be handed over to their relatives for funeral rites. They will be housed at the Army Base Hospital’s mortuary until the other ten are identified.

Civilians can pay tribute to CDS Gen Bipin Rawat from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at Karaj Marg residence tomorrow. Military personnel can pay respects between 12:30 pm to 13:30 pm. Thereafter, the mortal remains will be taken in a gun carriage for the funeral in Delhi’s Cantt Brar Square.
