Daltonganj, Dec 28: Chandwa police in Latehar district have recovered the stolen petrol tanker which was found parked near a petrol pump on the Sarath main road of Madhupur in Giridih district. However, no one has been arrested so far.

The tanker was filled with fuel at the time when it was looted but Chandwa police found it empty at the time of recovery suggesting the fuel was sold to some petrol pump coming in the route from Chandwa to Giridih.

According to the inspector of police cum officer-in-charge of the Chandwa police station Ashutosh Kumar, the Bharat Petroleum tanker was looted by unidentified criminals on NH 75 under Chandwa police station on the night of December 24.

The driver and the apprentice were overpowered by the criminals at first, but later they managed to free themselves.

The official said that the driver and apprentice informed the Chandwa police about the incident on the morning of December 25. SP Latehar Anjani Anjan then directed the Chandwa police to crack the case as soon as possible.

During their investigation, the police got a tip-off about this looted petrol tanker to be plying in Madhupur Sarath main road and found it abandoned near an HP petrol pump.

Asked if the GPS device in the tanker was functioning, the police officer said that the GPS device in the tanker had been non-functional since December 17.

Tanker owner Anup Kumar Paul of Ranchi told the police that he had been trying to locate his tanker since December 17 but couldn’t as the GPS was not working.

The tanker had taken fuel from the Chutiya depot of Bharat Petroleum on December 24 and was on its way to reach Chhatarpur in Palamu.
