Jamshedpur, Dec 28: The body of a 55-year-old man was found lying in a pool of blood in a slum opposite Tube Company gate under Burmamines thana area on Tuesday morning.

The body was soon identified as Ranjit Singh alias Chandi, a resident of Tube Harijan Bustee, the same  slum where the body was found.

Ranjit was a convoy driver and would stay alone at a rented house in Tube Harijan Bustee.

The police said the man had been bludgeoned to death by unknown assailants sometime past midnight.

A blood-stained boulder was found at the spot where the body was lying, suggesting that the assailant had used the boulder to commit the murder.

OC, Burmamines thana, Raju Kumar who rushed to the spot having got the information about the body said the murder might have taken place in a sequel to quarrel over liquor consumption.

“From the initial investigation, we could know that the murder victim who was a convoy driver had the habit of consuming liquor late in the night. He must have been murdered in a drunken state. We are trying to detect the killer, ” said Kumar.

The OC said the murder victim had family, but he would lead a bachelor’s life away from his wife and children.

The police recovered the body and sent it to the MGM Medical College mortuary for postmortem.
