New Delhi, Jan 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 25th National Youth Festival in Puducherry today on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda Jayanti, which is commemorated as National Youth Day across India. Due to the continuing coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, the event will be hosted virtually on January 12 and 13, according to a statement by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

The PM will address the inauguration programme at 11am today.

In addition to this, the Prime Minister will unveil a technological centre that will be operated by the Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), as well as an auditorium with an open-air theatre called the ‘Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Manimandapam.’

With an emphasis on the electronic system design and manufacturing (ESDM) sector, the technological facility was created at a cost of about 122 crore. It will focus on young skill development and annually train roughly 6,400 participants.

The auditorium, on the other hand, has been constructed at a cost of about ?23 crore. “It would primarily be used for educational purposes, and can accommodate more than 1,000 people,” the PMO statement read.

The National Youth Festival is aimed at shaping the minds of India’s youth and transforming them into a “united force for nation building.” “It aims to bring diverse cultures of India and integrate them into a united thread of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’,” the PMO statement read.

Following inauguration of the festival, the National Youth Summit will take place, featuring panel discussions on four topics: environment, climate, and SDG-led growth; technology, entrepreneurship, and innovation; indigenous and ancient wisdom; and national character, nation building, and homegrown.
