Ramgarh, Jan 12: Santosh Kumar, the 27-year-old son of Ramlagan Ohdar, a resident of Chatak in Ramgarh district’s Dulmi block, was killed by a herd of elephants. Last night, he went to the river to defecate. He had no idea that an elephant herd had arrived in the vicinity.

On Wednesday morning, the residents of the village were informed of the occurrence. The locals then contacted the Rajrappa Police Department and the Forest Department. The Rajrappa Police have arrived on the scene. There is resentment in the village as a result of this incident.

Mamta Devi, a local MLA, stated, “The forest department and the administration should work jointly to move the elephants out of the area as soon as possible. Otherwise, an elephant herd can cause serious harm to people and property. In this regard, I will speak with the top officials as soon as possible. The deceased’s relatives would receive immediate assistance. Compensation in the specified amount will also be granted.”

The fear of elephants is constantly growing in the district. The elephant herd has now entered Dulmi block, following Gola-Chitarpur. There have been many such incidences in the region in recent times.
