UP Polls: Congress releases list of star campaigners for 1st phase

Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi, and party secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are among the list

New Delhi, Jan 24: The Congress on Monday unveiled a list of their 30-star campaigners for the first phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections 2022, which will begin on February 10.

Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi, and party secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are among those named on the list.

Sachin Pilot, Ashok Gehlot, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Bhupesh Baghel, and 18 other campaigners are also on the list. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had previously announced a list of star candidates for the Uttar Pradesh elections in 2022, which included Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, party president J P Nadda, and 27 others.

Maneka and Varun Gandhi, a mother-son combination, have been left off the list. Both have won numerous elections in Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur and Pilibhit. In the recent reshuffle, both were removed from the BJP’s national executive committee.

Others on the list include Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, State President Swatantra Dev Singh, Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan, Smriti Irani, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Dinesh Sharma, and Keshav Prasad Maurya, and Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan, Smriti Irani, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Dinesh Sharma, and Keshav Prasad Maurya. Sanjeev Balyan and Radha Mohan Singh are also on the list.

From February 10 to March 7, all 403 constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, one of the most politically significant states, will vote in seven stages. The results will be counted on the 10th of March.
