New Delhi, Feb 5: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi spoke out on the Karnataka hijab row on Saturday morning. He claimed that the country was robbing the future of female students by allowing the issue to obstruct their education.

Responding to Rahul Gandhi, the Karnataka BJP accused him of ‘communalising education.’ The official handle of Karnataka BJP tweeted that he had “once again proved that he is dangerous to the future of India”.

Further, the party asked, “If hijab is very much essential to get educated, why doesn’t Rahul Gandhi make it mandatory in states ruled by Congress?”

By communalising education, CONgress co-owner @RahulGandhi has once again proved that he is dangerous to the future of India.

After girl students at a government pre-university college in Karnataka were advised not to arrive wearing hijabs, the row erupted. The fight began at a college in Udupi and quickly spread to other institutions in the district. In response, a group of Hindu students, largely boys, arrived at college wearing saffron shawls.

With the issue spreading to other educational institutions and the matter reaching the high court, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai met with Primary and Secondary Education Minister B C Nagesh and other key government officials on Friday to discuss the government’s position.

Siddaramaiah, a Congress leader, commented on the subject, “It is a violation of fundamental rights, and it occurred in a government college. The BJP is attempting to politicise the matter by requiring kids to wear a saffron scarf, which is not mandatory.”

He had previously tweeted that the BJP and RSS are attempting to foment communal strife in the state under the guise of hijab.

Maenwhile, Karnataka BJP president Nalin Kateel said, “We have a BJP government in the state, there is no room for hijab or any other controversy. School is like Saraswati temple – it is necessary to follow the rules of school or college. Bringing religious controversy in, this is not right. Our government will take strict action. Students should follow rules. We will not allow this to be made another Taliban state.”

He added, “Our government will not allow hijab. The matter is in court, we will wait for the decision and all should follow the rules set by the school or college.”
