Ranchi, Feb.11: The Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) today filed an affidavit in the Jharkhand High Court seeking permission to publish revised results of the preliminary test (PT) of 7th to 10th JPSC civil services examinations.
The matter is scheduled for hearing on February 15.
The development took place after the high court on January 24 sought a reply from the recruitment agency while hearing a petition filed challenging the provision of reservation given in recently held seventh preliminary test for selection of civil servants for the state services.
The court asked the recruitment agency whether the reservation was given or not and if yes, what is the number of candidates from the reserve category who qualified PT and out of them how many of them occupied unreserved seats. Apart from this, the high court also asked the recruitment agency to give category-wise break-up for PT-qualified candidates.
A division bench of the high court comprising Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan and Justice Sujeet Narayan Prasad heard the petition.
The order came from the court after petitioner’s advocate Amritansh Vats told the court that reservation has been given in the seventh JPSC preliminary examination without mentioning the same in the advertisement published for the recruitment. He argued how come the recruitment agency gives reservation in the PT when the state government had not made any such policy under which the benefit of reservation could be given in the preliminary examination.
A day after the high court order seeking a reply, the JPSC postponed its mains examination which was scheduled from January 28 and submitted before the court that it will review its PT result.
There were 114 seats in the general category in the 7th JPSC exam. According to the rule, fifteen times the result should be issued and 1710 candidates should be selected in the general category. But only 768 general category candidates have been selected. Due to this it seems that reservation has been given in the preliminary examination of the JPSC.
