Bengaluru, Feb 14: As Karnataka’s high schools reopen on Monday amid the ongoing hijab controversy, the Karnataka High Court will resume hearings on petitions concerning the use and wearing of hijab in educational institutions this afternoon at 2:30 PM.

The Karnataka government has agreed to reopen all state institutions up to class 10. Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai announced the decision during a meeting in Hubli on Sunday. Until February 16, all pre-university and degree colleges will be closed.
Meanwhile, the Udupi district government has issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC in the areas surrounding all of the district’s high schools from today till February 19. From 6 a.m. on February 14 until 6 p.m. on February 19, the order will be in force.
The Karnataka High Court had already issued an interim order allowing educational institutions to resume. It did, however, mandate that no religious apparel, including hijab and saffron shawls, be worn within educational institutes.
Notably, the HC had specified that this order is only applicable for those institutions that practice a dress code or uniform.
