Guwahati, Feb 17: Yash Dhull, the ICC U19 World Cup-winning captain, smashed a century on his first-class debut for Delhi in a Ranji Trophy match against Tamil Nadu in Guwahati on Thursday.
After lunch on the first day of the match, Dhull, who opened the batting with Dhruv Shorey, completed his century off 133 balls with 16 boundaries. Delhi went from 7 for 2 in the third over of the innings to 171 for 3 in 45 overs thanks to the youthful opener’s superb effort.
The India U19 captain, who was signed by Delhi Capitals for Rs 50 lakh in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, smashed a fifty off just 57 balls with 10 boundaries before lunch. With an 84, Dhull headed into the lunch break unblemished.
Dhull and Nitish Rana, a veteran Delhi and Kolkata Knight Riders batsman, put on 60 runs for the third wicket. He then put up a century stand for the fourth wicket with Jonty Sidhu (44 not out). The youthful opener was removed for 97, but TN medium-pacer M Mohammed overstepped to give him another chance to achieve a century.
Notably, Dhull had previously lead India to a record sixth U19 World Cup victory after the Indians defeated England in the final. The Ranji Trophy will be split into two halves, with the pre-IPL 2022 phase set to take place from February 10 to March 15. From May 30 through June 26, the post-IPL phase will take place.
This season’s Ranji Trophy will include 64 matches spread over 62 days. Eight Elite Groups and one Plate Group are available. The Elite Groups would consist of four teams, while the Plate Group would consist of six teams.
