Dhanbad, Feb 25: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has changed rules in the admission of the first MBBS professional course and extended the date for second round entrance in medical colleges across the country.

As per the NMC letter, now the admission on state quota seats would be held only after completion of 15% reserved seats of central quota (NEET) under new rules.

In the wake of changed rules, the NMC has announced fresh dates for admission in the second round from February 27 to March 5 for central quota students.

“Now, the admission of the vacant MBBS seats in medical colleges of Jharkhand in the second round will be held between March 5 to 9,” said Dr. Arun Kumar, Director, Medical Education Wing of the state. Earlier, it was scheduled from February 21 to 24.

After the first round of admission in the  2021 session, which was held between February 4 to7, 128 seats remained vacant in all five medical colleges of Jharkhand.

The Authority of a medical college said that in the past it was witnessed that students of state quota left the seat after admission as they got selected in central quota. As a result, the seat of the state quota remained vacant. So now admission would be held on central quota first and on state quota later on.

“So NMC has changed the admission rule to save the seats in the state quota,” the medical college authority said.
