Ranchi, Mar 1: The Jharkhand Academic Council on Tuesday has announced dates for the exam of the National Means-cum?Merit Scholarship (NMMS) under the National Means cum Merit Scholarship scheme launched by the Central government.

As per the notification, admit cards can be downloaded from the JAC website www.jac.jharkhand.gov.in after March 8. The exam is set to be conducted on March 13 at all district headquarters. Meanwhile, the exam forms for the exam were filled by November 14, 2021.

Notably, JAC had issued instructions in this regard earlier. The selected students are given a scholarship of Rs 12,000 per year from 9th to 12th for education. Schools were asked to register their schools by visiting the National Scholarship Portal.

The objective of the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) scheme is to provide scholarships to meritorious students from economically weaker sections to prevent drop-outs from their studies in class VIII and enable them to pursue their studies at the secondary level to encourage the continuation of education.

“A total of one lakh new scholarships worth Rs 12,000/- per annum (Rs 1000/- per month) are provided to the selected students of class IX every year under the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) scheme. Their enrollment is continued/renewed from class X to XII for study in the schools of the received and local bodies. The students are selected for the scholarship through an examination conducted by the State/UT Governments,” a JAC official said on Tuesday.

“Details related to this scheme are available on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). This scholarship is directly transferred to the bank accounts of the students by electronic transfer through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) following the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode. Cent percent fund under the scheme is provided by the central government,” the official continued.

Meanwhile, the Centre had approved the Central Sector National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMSS) with a total financial outlay of Rs 1827.00 crore in the 15th Finance Commission cycle for a period of five years i.e. from 2021-22 to 2025-26 as per eligibility criteria. It is approved to continue with minor changes in the scheme and amendments in the renewal norms under the scheme. Minor eligibility changes include raising the income limit from Rs 1.5 lakh per annum to Rs 3.5 lakh per annum.
