Mumbai, March 8: The public interest litigation (PIL) petition seeking a stay on the release of the film Kashmir Files was dismissed by the Bombay High Court on Tuesday. The film can now be released on its scheduled date of 11th March.

The appeal was denied by a bench consisting of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice MS Karnik. More information on the reasons for order recording will be provided later.

Intezar Hussain Sayed, a native of Uttar Pradesh, had filed a PIL seeking a halt on the film’s release. Notably, the picture will be released on March 11th.

According to the petition, the film’s trailer appeared to depict Muslims slaughtering Kashmiri Pandits, injuring Muslim community sentiments.

He argued that the entire film depicted a one-sided version of the occurrence, which might incite and inflame Hindus, resulting in bloodshed and widespread devastation across the country.

“The movie will not only hurt the religious sentiments of Muslim community but also ignite emotions and inflame members of the Hindu community with clear possibility of triggering violence in all parts of India,” reads the plea.

The petition also alleged that, with elections taking place in many states, there is a risk of political parties misusing such incident, potentially leading to full-fledged communal violence.

The petitioner requested that the film’s trailer be taken down immediately until the hearing of this case.
