Daltonganj, Mar 14: A contingent of Congress led by the district president Bittu Pathak today handed down a memorandum to the Palamu DC Shashi Ranjan regarding the dilapidated condition of the oldest Gandhi Smiriti Bhavan called as old town hall in Daltonganj.
Pathak said this building is the identity of Daltonganj and it is in utter bad condition. It is ruining and there is none to take care of it.
He said when other government buildings get a facelift then why a building dedicated to Bapu has been left to languish.
Senior Congress leader Mithilesh Singh said it is the prime duty of the Palamu administration to save this Gandhi Smiriti Bhavan town hall from falling down.
Sources said this building serves as a stay house of the central paramilitary forces during the elections be it Lok Sabha or the Vidhan Sabha.
It is located on the bank of the river Koel and hence has its own importance. Close to it is an air-conditioned Pdt Deendayal Upadhayay Smiriti Bhavan which is much in use as town hall in Daltonganj.
Sources said it is to be seen if this building is renovated by the Medinirai municipal corporation as it falls under it or by the PWD building.
DC Palamu Shashi Ranjan is understood to have given a positive response to the demands of the Congress men.
Pathak was accompanied by Binod Tiwary, Ishwari Singh, Shamim Rayeen and others.
