New Delhi, Mar 15: The National Statistical Office’s (NSO) quarterly labour market survey showed that India’s unemployment rate fell to 12.6% in the April-June quarter of 2021, down from 12.7% a year ago for the same period.

According to the 11th Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), that rate was 9.3% in the January-March quarter of 2021.

While the unemployment rate in the quarter ended June 2021 went back above double digits in percentage terms, it was down from 20.8% a year ago.

Because of the country’s lockdown limitations implemented as a result of the pandemic in full swing, that number was skewed higher.

The unemployment rate, often known as the jobless rate, is a percentage measure of the number of persons who are unemployed in the labour force.

According to the report, the female jobless rate fell to 14.3 percent in the April-June quarter of 2021, down from 21.1 percent a year earlier. In the January-March quarter of 2021, it was 11.8 percent.

The incidence among males fell to 12.2 percent from 20.7 percent a year ago. In the quarter ending in March 2021, it was 8.6%.

In the April-June quarter of 2021, the labour force participation rate in the current weekly status was 46.8%, up from 45.9% in the same quarter a year before. In January-March 2021 period, it was 47.5 percent.
