Dhanbad, Mar 21: Senior leaders of Congress today paid rich tributes to party leader Neeraj Singh on his 5th death anniversary at Bastakola of Jharia today.
Jharkhand state Congress working president Jaleshwar Mahto, district president Brajendra Prasad Singh, working president Ravindra Verma, vice-president Mukhtar Khan and trade union leaders paid tributes to late party leader Neeraj Singh.
Former deputy mayor of Dhanbad Neeraj Singh, who had contested as Congress candidate against his cousin Sanjiv Singh from Jharia assembly constituency in 2014, was gunned down along with three other persons near his house at Saraidhela Steel Gate on March 21, 2017.
Neeraj Singh’s wife Purnima Singh contested as a Congress candidate in the 2019 assembly election and fulfilled the dream of her husband. However, party workers said that Purnima Singh could not attend the condolence meeting today due to the assembly session.
While paying homage to the late Neeraj Singh, Congress state committee working president Jaleshwar Mahto said that in a short time and an early age, Neeraj Singh became the messiah of labour class people and waged battle for the rights of deprived workers.
District Congress working president Ravindra Verma on the occasion said that Neeraj Singh was an emerging young leader of the party. His killing was a major jolt and the party lost a young leader who could be an asset to the organization. “Party would not rest till his killers are punished,” he said.
