Ranchi, March 24: Villagers in Khunti, the birthplace of tribal icon Birsa Munda, planned to construct two traditional check dams, Bori Bandh.

The dams will be constructed on the Banai river passing through Ganaloya and Gurmi village under Murhu block. The work will be done on March 27.

Villagers took the decision in a meeting held today under the supportive supervision of the district administration, a voluntary organization, Sewa Welfare Society, and Gram Sabha.

The dam will help ensure uninterrupted water supply in the rural areas adjacent to the rivers and raise depleting water levels in the locality. Apart from this, it will also help rejuvenate the river and ensure the availability of water for irrigation and consumption of animals throughout the year.
