Ranchi, April 1: The Jharkhand High Court deferred the hearing in Lalu Prasad’s bail plea for a week.
The development took place after the bench of Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, where the matter is being heard, did not sit.
On March 11, the court had fixed today’s date for the hearing and called for records from the trial court.
This is the third time the court deferred the hearing in Lalu’s bail petition. Before March 11, the court deferred a hearing on March 4 after finding some defects in the bail petition and had asked the petitioner’s advocate to remove the same.
The bail petition was moved on February 24 after the CBI court convicted Prasad on February 15 for his role in a fodder scam involving Rs 139.5 crore of Doranda treasuries. On February 21, the court awarded five years imprisonment and imposed Rs 60 lakh as fine for his crime.
The ailing leader pleaded before the high court seeking suspension of his sentence in the matter and asked for bail on health grounds. His counsel argued that he had served half of the term of the sentence awarded to him.
Lalu is currently under treatment at AIIMS, where he was referred from Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences for better treatment.
