Dumka, April 5: The ‘rebel’ JMM MLA from Borio (Sahibganj) Lobin Hembrom launched what he said ‘ulgulan’ (rebellion) against his own Hemant Soren government from Bhognadih, the birthplace of the tribal martyr brothers Sidhu and Kanhu, to mark the beginning of the next phase of his ongoing movement to press for the 1932 land records based domicile policy in Jharkhand.
Bhognadih notably falls under the Barhet assembly constituency, the home constituency of chief minister Hemant Soren battling the political crisis of the survival of his government from both within the JMM and the ruling allies, particularly the Congress.
Lobin along with hundreds of his supporters thronged to Bhognadih and paid obeisance to the martyr brothers of the famous Santhal rebellion, by offering water and milk on the feet of the statues of the martyr brothers and flowers as a mark of seeking their blessings for the very cause of what he said the existence of the tribal communities.
He also applied Tilak of the soil from near the statues of Sido and Kanhu and called on the descendants of the martyrs’ family before leaving for Pakur to attend a Jan Aakrosh rally being organised in Pakur.
Meanwhile, the heat of the prevailing resentment among the local tribal community, the major support base of the JMM, against the chief minister in particular and the ruling allies at large have started being perceived in rural pockets of Santhal Pargana as well.
Being infuriated by Soren’s U-Turn on the state’s domicile policy protestors mostly youths belonging to the tribal community which is the major support base of the JMM, burnt effigies of the sitting MLAs of the ruling allies including the Congress and the RJD barring Lobin in different villages of Dumka district on Tuesday to vent their ire.
The protesters have also been demanding strict implementation of the PESA and both the tenancy acts including the CNT and SPT acts besides others which has even deepened the crisis the Hemant Soren government is facing.
