New Delhi, April 7: Air India has cancelled one return flight on the Delhi-Moscow-Delhi route on Thursday, after continuing to operate normally since the Russian-Ukrainian conflict began on February 24. An Air India official confirmed the cancellation but refused to comment on the cause for the cancellation.

However, according to the Russian embassy, Air India has ceased selling tickets on the Delhi-Moscow-Delhi route, and the future of the service is questionable.

According to the reports of Russian news agency Tass, the Russian embassy said in a statement, “Dear fellow citizens. We draw your attention that the Indian airline Air India has stopped selling tickets on the Delhi-Moscow-Delhi route, the prospects for resuming flights of this airline to Russia are uncertain at the moment.”

In the absence of an Air India direct flight, travellers going to Moscow will have to use transit routes via Tashkent, Istanbul, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Doha.

Air India, which is currently controlled by Tata, participated in India’s ‘Operation Ganga’ evacuation attempt to rescue Indians stranded in Ukraine. Ukraine’s airspace was restricted to all airlines after Russia invaded the country. Russian airspace was closed to airlines from the United States, Canada, and Europe. Air India continued to fly across Russian airspace.
