PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, April 9:  The East Singhbhum police this afternoon carried out a flag march in the wake of the Ram Navami festival tomorrow.

During the flag march which started from Sakchi, policemen went around various sensitive pockets. Apart from senior police officials, Jamshedpur’s senior SP Tamil Vannan also participated in the flag march.

The East Singhbhum police had imposed several restrictions on the Ram Navami immersion procession to be taken out on Monday, April 11.

The immersion-related formalities should get completed by 10 pm. Moreover, only 100 people can be part of a procession. The congregating point of all immersion processions should not have more than 1000 people, as per the directives.

The East Singhbhum district administration is beefing up security and is taking precautionary measures to ensure a peaceful Ram Navami immersion procession this year.

The police have appealed to people not to share any objectionable messages on social media and avoid forwarding misleading information, photos, videos and objectionable remarks taking caste, creed and religion.
Police have also asked people to report the anti-social elements trying to disturb the communal harmony of the city to the nearest police station.

The Ram Navami processions will be taken out on April 11. Due to the COVID -19 induced pandemic, no processions could be taken out in the last two years.

The police take extra measures as the festival has sparked communal tension on several occasions in the past.

The East Singhbhum district administration has decided to curb the use of inflammatory songs and posting communally sensitive messages on social media during Ram Navami processions.

A directive has been issued in this regard to all the 170-odd licensed and around 30 unlicensed Ram Navami akhara committees.

CCTV cameras would be installed in as many as 25 sensitive locations in Jamshedpur. Moreover, drones will be pressed to service for keeping a tab on processions.

Rapid Action Force, QRT and Jharkhand Armed Police would be deployed in adequate numbers for preventing any incidents during the immersion procession.

A watchtower was also erected in Sakchi to keep a tab on the immersion processions.
