Ladakh, April 12: As part of user validation trials, India successfully test-fired the anti-tank guided missile Helina from the indigenously manufactured advanced light helicopter (ALH) at high-altitude ranges in Ladakh on Tuesday. According to DRDO officials, the missile was tested yesterday in the same area where it successfully hit a simulated tank target.

“India today carried out a successful test firing of Helina anti-tank guided missile from the indigenous Advanced Light Helicopter in high altitude areas of Ladakh. The missile was tested yesterday also in same area where it successfully hit a simulated tank target,” said DRDO officials.

Teams of experts from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the Indian Army, and the Indian Air Force collaborated on the flying test (IAF).

Helina, also known as the Nag missile from helicopters, is a third-generation ‘lock-on before launch’, fire-and-forget missile that can engage targets in both direct hit and top assault modes. The Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) in Hyderabad developed it as part of the DRDO’s Missiles and Strategic Systems (MSS) cluster.
