Dhanbad, April 13: The National Students Union of India (NSUI) has urged the Dhanbad district administration for an immediate revision of school and college class timings for the safety of students in wake of the heatwave menace going on all over Jharkhand.

A delegation of the NSUI under district president Gopal Krishna Choudhary met Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sandip Singh and handed over a memorandum for revising the school and college timing as the entire coal belt region is in the grip of a heatwave and students are gasping in attending their institutions.

The NSUI president said that the temperature has touched around 42 degrees Celsius in Dhanbad. The scorching sunlight has taken a devastating shape as soon as April started. School and college going students are falling ill after being affected by the heat. Especially, the students in junior classes are getting affected in large numbers. Even the doctors of government, as well as private sectors, are issuing an advisory to avoid venturing out of the house in such conditions in the interest of health.

“So, before the heatwave takes its toll in the coal belt, we have requested the DC to issue a directive to the educational institutions for revising the timings and fix classes till 11.30 a.m. only,” said Gopal Krishna Choudhary.

The NSUI president further said that the DC agreed with the demand and has assured to take the required steps in this regard in the interest of students.

The students’ union leaders also requested the DC for directing the district education department for proper arrangement of water and repairing of fans in the government-owned schools in the district.

Secretary of state youth Congress committee Shivam Singh, Rohit Kumar, Sanny Rajak Ravi Kumar, Praveen Kumar and Saurav Kumar were other members of the delegation.
