Ranchi, April 25: The presence of CCTV cameras at traffic signals in Ranchi is not creating any fear in the minds of commuters in Ranchi when they break a traffic law. The reason being most of the cameras at the traffic signals are non-functional.

Traffic DSP, Dilip Khalkho while speaking to lagatar24.com has said that there has been regular issuing of online challan. However, in those traffic signals, where the cameras are non-functional, the online challan is not being issued.

Places such as Harmu’s Kishoreganj Chowk and Sahjanand Chowk have non-functional cameras at the traffic signal. The traffic inspectors who have a duty at these places do not depend on the cameras to catch the violators but do it themselves.

“The cameras have been non-functional for quite some time now and commuters are taking it very lightly as there is no fear in them to do any traffic offence,” said a traffic inspector from Harmu.

Apart from this, the traffic lights at many traffic signals do not work at times and just blink the orange light. Many commuters take advantage of this situation and do not wait in traffic.

Rahul Sharma, a resident of Harmu working on Ratu Road has said that at times the traffic signal at Sahjanand Chowk works whereas at times the orange light keeps blinking.

“I travel through the Sajhanand Chowk – Kishoreganj Road every day while going to Ratu Road. The traffic lights at these places often are set at auto mode where just the orange light blinks. However, for commuters it becomes easy as they are aware that they would not get caught for violating traffic in such a situation,” he said.
