Ranchi, May 3: The Health department of Jharkhand filed a complaint against former food and civil supply minister and legislator from Jamshedpur (east), Saryu Roy, at Doranda police station in the Jharkhand capital.
The allegation levelled in the complaint is an offence under different sections of the Official Secret Act 1923 section besides 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant), 420 (cheating and thereby dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 379(theft), 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) and 120B (conspiracy) of IPC.
S.P.(city) Anshuman Kumar confirmed the complaint saying ‘the FIR was registered based on the complaint.’ Kumar, however, did not elaborate in detail.
Roy is under the fire of the health department after he exposed how Health Minister Banna Gupta and people close to him attempted to take corona incentives. Earlier on April 25 Gupta had also filed a defamation suit against Roy in Jamshedpur.
An insider said the complaint is filed by an under secretary of the health department. It has been alleged that the Roy stole secret documents from the health department and made it public.
Contacted Roy for his comment he termed the development as a ‘mischievous act’ and ‘foolish design’. He said the documents which he had made public were not classified documents as one can procure the same exercising Right to Information Act.
He said it was not for the first time he has made the official document public. He said earlier Madhu Koda had filed a case against him at ST/SC Police station when he had made an official document exposing corruption in public.
He said in 1982 when Jagannath Mishra was chief minister of Bihar he had also disclosed the official documents and the matter hogged the limelight. In 1985 he claimed to have made another official document public highlighting the corruption by Tapeshwar Singh.
“I remember when someone had raised the matter before the high court where the high court had observed that one should realise the mistake instead of discussing where making a government official public is right or wrong,” Roy said.
