Ranchi, May 9: The JMM today asked the BJP legislature party chief Babulal Marandi to restrain himself from raising finger on the integrity of assembly Speaker Rabindranath Mahto and proceedings of his tribunal hearing the matter related to defection.

Addressing a press conference, JMM general secretary and spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya said that the speaker happens to be the guardian of the House and give proper protection to the opposition during a debate in the house to protect the spirit of democracy and thus help the government in taking proper decisions.

The JMM leader said this is not the first time Marandi has done this.  Earlier, he said, when Dinesh Oraon was the speaker and the matter related to five MLAs, who had joined the BJP after winning election as JVM candidates was pending before the tribunal of Oraon he had levelled a similar allegation. The JMM had respected the chair and except requesting for early judgement said nothing against the chair, he added.

Bhattacharya said it was obvious on the part of the speaker to take proper time as the letter by which three including Bandhu Tirkey, Pradeep Yadav and Babulal Marandi had extended unconditional support to the UPA after winning election as JVM candidates is still with him.

Before suggesting Marandi to keep patience the JMM leader expressed his concern over the way two former chief ministers of the state including Marandi and Raghubar Das became incommunicado after giving a statement on the ED raid and raising the finger at the assembly speaker.

“They should disclose their location,” Bhattacharya said, adding that he has come to know that they have switched off their mobile.

Bhattacharya said the entire exercise is being done in the state to destabilise the tribal-led government and Marandi is being used as a tool. He reminded Marandi to take lessons from his past when he decided to resign facing the similar situation Hemant is facing now.
