MANOJ SINHA

Ramgarh, May 23: An elderly woman named Manjo Devi (80) died at Barlong village in the Ramgarh district. The villagers did not come forward to lift the body for the funeral procession citing superstitions.

The villagers did not even come to see the body of Manjo Devi. This compelled her three daughters Jhalo Devi, Anita Devi and Vilaso Devi and their husbands to perform the last rites by shouldering the dead body.

The husband and son of the elderly woman have also died in the past. Her daughters and sons-in-law were her only support. Her relatives used to stay cut off from the family, but even after Manjo Devi’s death, no one came forward to show support.

However, after getting information about the incident, many dignitaries including social workers Dhaneshwar Mahato and Lalbihari reached the village and helped in the cremation while the people around remained absent.
