New Delhi, May 31: The bodies of all 22 people who died in the Tara aircraft disaster in Nepal’s Mustang area on Sunday morning have been retrieved.

The black box, according to the rescuers, has also been recovered and is being sent to the base station.

The Nepal Army took ten bodies to the base station on Monday, out of a total of 21 victims retrieved.

“Because of bad weather conditions rescue operation was very difficult, even with 50-60 rescuers has been deployed. Three helicopters are also stationed which have been engaged in retrieving the bodies located by the rescuers from the accident site to the nearby base station,” said Teknath Situala, the Spokesperson at Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu.

The turboprop aircraft, operated by Tara Air, was en route to Jomsom from Pokhara when it crashed at an elevation of 14,500 feet at the base of Manapathi peak in Mustang District on Sunday.

The search for the missing body is underway in the Himalayas, which are currently enveloped by a heavy blanket of fog, hampering visibility, according to officials.

The twin-otter aircraft, which took off from Pokhara at 9:55 a.m. (NST) on Sunday for Jomsom in Mustang, lost communication immediately after takeoff and was later discovered at Sansure Cliff in Thasang Rural Municipality-2 in Mustang on Monday morning. The plane carried a total of 22 passengers, including four Indians, two Germans, and three crew members.
