New Delhi, March 31:  Aam Aadmi Party MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj has petitioned the Delhi High Court  on Thursday for a SIT inquiry into the attack and vandalism of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence yesterday, alleging it was carried out by “Bhartiya Janata Party goons” in the guise of protest.

The petition, filed by Advocate Bharat Gupta, calls the attack a direct attack on democracy and demands an independent, fair, and time-bound criminal investigation into the attack and its perpetrators, as well as directions for ensuring the security of the Chief Minister and his residence in the future.

The suit claims that in the past, BJP goons attacked the residence of the Deputy Chief Minister in 2020, and that the Delhi Police did little to stop the attackers and did not take any tangible criminal action against them.

The plea claims that if the perpetrators of the attack are not brought to court and responsibility is not placed on the errant officers of the Delhi Police, the people will lose faith in the rule of law and in the police’s ability to protect them from political violence.
