Dhanbad, March 31: Already starved of senior teachers, the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) Jamshedpur and Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad have plunged into further crisis with the retirement of five senior professors today.
Three senior professors of different faculties retired at MGMMCH Jamshedpur while two heads of the departments superannuated from their services at SNMMCH today.
Those who retired at MGMMCH are Professor (Dr) Ram Yatan Choudhary, head of the department, anaesthesia, Associate Professor (Dr) Lalan Choudhary, head of the department FMT and Associate Professor (Dr) Rita Chouhan, head of the department microbiology.
At SNMMCH Dhanbad, Professor (Dr) Pratibha Roy, head of the department of gynaecology and Associate Professor (Dr) RK Verma, head of the department PSM retired today.
MGMMCH principal Dr KN Singh said that Associate Professor (Dr) Ajay Kumar has taken charge as the head of the department of anaesthesia in place of Dr Ram Yatan Choudhary while Assistant Professor (Dr) Vivakar Kumar has replaced Dr Lalan Choudhary as head of the FMT department. Associate Professor ( Dr) Priti Mohan has become the new head of the microbiology department.
“Following the retirement of these senior teachers, a major crisis has appeared in these faculties. I have duly informed in writing to the additional chief secretary of health about this crisis,” said Dr KN Singh, principal MGMMCH Jamshedpur.
At SNMMCH, associate professor (Dr) Shashi Lal has become the new head of the department in gynaecology department in place of Dr Pratibha Roy while Assistant Professor (Dr) Ravi Ranjan Jha became the new head of the department PSM.
Both the government-owned colleges are already faculty members starved and the retirement of these senior teachers has enhanced faculty deficiencies in the institutions.
Director of medical education of the state health department Dr Arun Kumar admitted that the crisis of senior teachers has escalated from this retirement.
“Since promotion has not been given to eligible teachers in medical colleges, the crisis of professors and associate professors has appeared,” he pointed out.
