New Delhi, Jan 2: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday demanded the death penalty for five men who dragged a 20-year-old woman for kilometres after her scooty was hit by their car.

Delhi | It's an unfortunate incident that a group of men dragged a woman under their car and she died. I appeal that all the accused should be given stringent punishment & be hanged. It's rarest of rare crimes: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Khanjawala hit and run case pic.twitter.com/e4X1YmjJAv

Later, the woman’s body was found on the road without clothes and with a broken back and legs in Delhi’s Kanjhawala.

Delhi CM said that the strictest sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) should be slapped against the perpetrators in the Kanjhawala death case.

He added that he spoke to Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena and asked him to take exemplary action against the culprits.

Spoke to Hon’ble LG on Kanjhawala incident. Requested him to take exemplary action against culprits, strictest sections of IPC shud be slapped against them. No leniency shud be showed even if they have high political connections.

He assured that he will take strong action

Taking to Twitter Arvind Kejriwal said, “Spoke to Hon’ble LG on the Kanjhawala incident. Requested him to take exemplary action against culprits, strictest sections of IPC shud be slapped against them. No leniency shud be shown even if they have high political connections. He assured me that he will take strong action.”

Earlier on Monday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer District) Harendra K Singh said that five people have been arrested in the Kanjhawala case and a case of 304 A (Death due to negligence) has been registered against the perpetrators.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena tweeted that he was shocked at the monstrous insensitivity of the perpetrators and was monitoring the case.

My head hangs in shame over the inhuman crime in Kanjhawla-Sultanpuri today morning and I am shocked at the monstrous insensitivity of the perpetrators.
Have been monitoring with @CPDelhi and the accused have been apprehended. All aspects are being thoroughly looked into.

“Even as every possible support/help and beyond, to the family of the victim will be ensured, I appeal to all to not resort to opportunistic scavenging. Let’s together work towards a more responsible and sensitive society,” he said in another tweet.

An eyewitness told the police that the car driver dragged women’s body, which got entangled in the undercarriage, for 18 to 20 km.

The woman lived with her mother and younger siblings in Aman Vihar in Northwest Delhi. Her father died some years ago.
