New Delhi, Feb 2: The leaders of a number of opposition parties conducted a press conference at Vijay Chowk on Thursday and urged an investigation into the accusations made against the Adani Group by the US short-seller firm Hindenburg, claiming that the situation ‘endangers the hard-earned money of crores of Indians.’
A day after the Adani Board postponed its showpiece share offering, the Congress and other parties demanded that the Adani Group issue be investigated by a joint parliamentary committee or under SC supervision.
In order to examine the problem of investments by LIC, Public Sector Banks, and financial institutions in Adani Group companies losing market value, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge claimed that the Opposition has given the suspension of business notice in Parliament under rule 267.
“We wanted a discussion on that. Our notices get rejected. When we raise important issues, no time is given for discussion. Money of poor people is there in LIC, SBI and other national banks and it is being given to selected companies,” Kharge said.
“Either a joint parliamentary committee or a team under the supervision of the CJI of the Supreme Court should investigate this,” he added.

Earlier in the day, both houses of Parliament have been suspended until 2 p.m. today due to opposition protests calling for a discussion on the Hindenburg report.
Notably, in order to protect investors from potential financial losses, the Adani Board decided to cancel the Follow-on Public Offer (FPO) of equity shares totaling up to Rs 20,000 crore on Wednesday.
